The Chairman of Bariga Local Government Area in Lagos, Kolade Alabi, collapsed unexpectedly during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the party’s Secretariat in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State.
Alabi, who also serves as the Lagos State chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was said to be addressing the gathering when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses at the venue noted that the chairman was speaking to a room filled with fellow party members and stakeholders when he suddenly slumped, causing panic in the hall.
The situation quickly drew attention as security personnel and aides rushed to assist him. An ambulance, which was already on standby at the event, was called in, and Alabi was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
One APC official present at the meeting noted, “He was speaking confidently, then he just lost his balance and went down. Everyone was shocked.”
Another attendee, who chose to remain anonymous, added, “It was a scary moment. No one saw it coming, but we’re glad he was attended to quickly.”
