Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, was officially elected as the National President of Nigeria’s National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on Saturday.
The election took place at the NURTW Zonal Secretariat along the Osogbo/Ikirun road, and Akinsanya emerged as the sole candidate in this election, solidifying his new leadership role within the organization.
Delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states participated in the voting process during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference. This event was observed by Aliyu Issa-Ore, the acting National President, who monitored the process to ensure compliance with the Union’s regulations.
Issa-Ore addressed the attendees, clarifying that the Union’s Constitution permits specific zones to nominate their preferred candidates for national leadership. In this instance, the Southwest zone selected Oluomo as their candidate, following the required constitutional procedures.
Representing the acting NURTW President at the event, Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the Union’s National Headquarters in Abuja, said, “The Southwest zone has fully complied with the Constitution in electing Oluomo as President.”
In addition to Oluomo’s election, the delegates appointed Tajudeen Agbede as the Vice President for the Southwest region and named Akeem Adeosun as Trustee for the Zone.
Following his oath of office, Oluomo expressed a commitment to fostering peace and unity within the organization, stating, “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well.”
Oluomo pledged his dedication to strengthening the Union and protecting its members’ interests, adding, “This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
