JUST IN: PDP Declines To Sign Peace Accord Ahead Of Edo Governorship Poll

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided not to sign the peace accord for the Edo State Governorship election scheduled for September 21.

The announcement came from former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, who was present at the peace accord signing event in Benin on Thursday.

Abubakar revealed that the PDP has stated it will only sign the accord if certain conditions are met. “I met the governor yesterday and he told me the PDP are not going to sign this peace accord,” Abubakar stated.

He added, “They had made some observations and I was expecting the chairman of the PDP to come and make that statement. Having waited for him this long he chose to announce that the PDP said they are not going to sign and they have got some conditionalities.”

According to Abubakar, the PDP has set specific conditions that need to be addressed before they will agree to sign the peace accord. “They said that after these conditionalities have been met, they will come to Abuja and sign,” he explained.

The PDP’s state chairman was absent from the signing event and did not provide details on the reasons behind the party’s decision.

However, on Wednesday, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP had hinted that the party might not sign the peace accord during a meeting with members of the National Peace Committee.
