The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of former Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent figure in the party and a close associate of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate.
The decision to suspend Melaye was made by the Ward executive committee of Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, following his refusal to appear before the committee after being summoned.
The suspension was publicly declared after a meeting held by the Ward executive committee on Friday.
During this meeting, the committee reviewed the findings of a disciplinary panel set up to investigate allegations against Melaye.
The accusations included engaging in anti-party activities and other forms of misconduct that reportedly brought embarrassment and disrepute to the PDP.
According to the resolution, which was signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Secretary Yodson Dayo, Melaye’s continued membership in the party is deemed unacceptable due to his actions.
“The suspension is in line with provisions of Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution which empowers the Ward party excos to take disciplinary actions against erring members,” it reads in part.
