JUST IN: Supreme Court Upholds Uzodimma’s Re-election Victory

The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed the re-election of Governor Hope Uzodimma as the governor of Imo State. In a ruling delivered on Friday, the five-member panel of the apex court unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, challenging Uzodimma’s victory.

The court, led by Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, ruled that the issues raised by the appellants lacked merit. The PDP and Anyanwu had asked the court to review the outcome of the last gubernatorial election, claiming irregularities and violations of the electoral process. However, after careful consideration of the arguments, the Supreme Court concluded that the appeal was unfounded and upheld the election results.

In his lead judgment, Justice Mohammed Baba Idris stated, “The appeal is without merit,” affirming that the court found no reason to overturn Uzodimma’s victory.
