JUST IN: Suspended Ogun Monarch Charged for Assaulting Elderly Chief

The suspended monarch of Orile Ifo, Oba Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, has been charged for assaulting a 73-year-old chief, Abraham Areola.

The incident, which took place in Ifo, Ogun State, was widely circulated after a video surfaced showing the monarch physically attacking the elderly man. The police have now brought the case to court, where Ogunjobi faces three charges: conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday. He noted, “The Kabiyesi Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, who assaulted one elderly man in a viral video, in Ifo Ogun State, has been charged to court today February 4, 2025, on a three-count of conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.”

The incident involving Ogunjobi has sparked outrage in the local community and beyond, with many expressing concern over the treatment of the elderly. The video, which shows the violent altercation, quickly went viral, drawing attention to the actions of the suspended monarch.

Following the event, Ogunjobi was suspended from his position as the Olorile of Orile Ifo by the state government, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. The charge of conspiracy suggests that Ogunjobi may have acted in collaboration with others, though details of any potential accomplices have not yet been revealed.
