The chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area (LGA), Chijioke Ihunwo, has ordered the removal of former Governor Nyesom Wike’s name from the administrative block of the council secretariat. This move is seen as a significant gesture in the ongoing power struggle between Wike and the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
The removal took place amid increasing tensions between the two politicians, who have been locked in a battle for control over the political landscape in Rivers State.
Wike, currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is a prominent figure in Rivers politics, hailing from Rumuepirikom in Obio Akpor LGA. His name had been prominently displayed on the council’s administrative block until it was taken down over the weekend.
In replacement, Ihunwo installed the name of Obi Wali, a respected politician and activist from Rivers State who passed away in 1993.
