President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). His appointment, which will last for an initial four-year term, took effect on March 11, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The statement noted Oloriegbe’s extensive experience in the health sector and public service.
Dr. Oloriegbe is a former senator who represented Kwara Central in the 9th National Assembly. During his time in the Senate, he served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health. He also played a key role in the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health, where he contributed to policy discussions on improving healthcare services in Nigeria.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Additionally, he earned a Master’s degree in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, in collaboration with HEC, Paris. His academic qualifications, along with years of professional experience, position him as a strong candidate for the role.
Oloriegbe is an active member of several professional organizations. These include the Nigerian Medical Association, the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, and the International AIDS Society. His involvement in these organizations reflects his long-standing commitment to the healthcare sector.
