Nigerian President Bola Tinubu presented the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This ceremony took place as part of Modi’s state visit to Nigeria, aimed at strengthening the ties between the two countries.
The GCON, one of Nigeria’s highest national honors, was conferred on Modi in recognition of his leadership and India’s strong relationship with Nigeria.
In his address, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s partnership with India and the shared values between the two nations. He also highlighted the significance of Modi’s leadership in the democratic process, noting his achievement of winning three consecutive elections in a complex society.
“Nigeria values its excellent relationship with India, and we work to deepen and broaden the same to the mutual benefit of our two friendly countries,” Tinubu remarked. He also praised Modi for his continued commitment to democratic values, acknowledging the respect Modi has earned on the global stage.
The meeting, which included discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation, served as a reminder of the long-standing friendship between the two nations. Tinubu expressed his hope that the state visit would further cement the ties between Nigeria and India, benefiting both nations economically and politically.
