JUST IN: Tinubu Convenes Fresh FEC Meeting Just 24 Hours After Previous Session

President Bola Tinubu has called for another Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting just 24 hours after the last one. This marks the second day of a back-to-back meeting schedule aimed at clearing a backlog of pending memos.

The meeting, which began at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, was organized to address a buildup of memos that has accumulated since December. This two-day marathon session is part of an effort to keep the administration’s work on track and resolve pending matters that have been waiting for discussion and approval.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, had mentioned the need for the meeting the previous day. He noted that the government had been working to clear the backlog and that the meeting would serve to facilitate the quick resolution of the outstanding memos.

He also indicated that after the meeting, there would be another press briefing to update the public.

Among those attending Tuesday’s session were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.

Other key figures in the government, including ministers, ministers of state, and officials from various ministries, departments, and agencies were also present, alongside representatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The previous day’s FEC meeting saw several significant decisions. A key resolution was the approval of N4.8 billion for the Presidential Treatment Programme, aimed at providing 150,000 HIV treatment packs between February and May 2025.

Prof. Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, explained that this approval was in response to recent changes in U.S. policies that affect Nigeria’s health programs, particularly those focused on HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria funding.
