JUST IN: Tinubu Makes New Appointments

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, and Principal Officers for the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

A statement released on Tuesday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Senator Binta Garba will serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the university’s Governing Council.

Garba, a well-known politician, businesswoman, and administrator, represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2019. She also served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011.

Other members of the Governing Council include Prof. Joseph Sanya, Mr. Efe Emmanuel, Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi, and Dahiru Ruma.

For the university’s leadership, Tinubu appointed Prof. James Aribisala as Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Oluwole Dada as Registrar, Mrs. Adeniyi Ajayi as Bursar, and Prof. Isaac Busayo as Librarian.

The President noted the role of Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, in pushing for the establishment of the university. He urged the new appointees to bring their leadership skills and experience to the institution, ensuring it becomes a center for academic excellence, research, and development.

The university is expected to welcome its first batch of students in September 2025.

In a separate appointment, Tinubu also named Prof. Muhammed Audu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State. Audu will take over from Ohieku Salami.

The Presidency described Audu as “a distinguished academic and administrator with vast experience in Nigeria’s university system.” A Professor of Mathematics at the University of Jos, Audu previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he led several initiatives that improved the institution’s academic and infrastructural development.
