A tanker explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, has claimed the lives of two people. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday around Gabster Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, in the Oluyole Local Government Area at approximately 5:00 a.m.
Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that the victims, identified as the driver of the tanker and his assistant, were trapped in the burning vehicle and were unable to escape. “The incident happened around 5:00 this morning. The driver and his motor boy were trapped in the inferno and couldn’t escape. They were burnt beyond recognition,” one witness said.
Emergency responders, including the Oyo State Fire Service and security agencies, arrived at the scene to contain the fire. Their quick intervention helped prevent the flames from spreading to nearby businesses and residential buildings.
Moroof Akinwande, the Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, confirmed the incident. “We received information about the fire at Gabster Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, at 5:15 am. The situation is now under control,” Akinwande stated.
