JUST IN: Two Suspects in Anambra Lawmaker’s Murder Escape from Police Custody

Two suspects linked to the murder of Anambra lawmaker Justice Azuka have escaped from police custody. The Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensive search to recapture them.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday in Onitsha. He noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has taken swift action by deploying officers and intelligence teams to track down the escaped suspects.

In addition, disciplinary measures have been ordered against the officers whose negligence led to the escape.

Ikenga explained that the two suspects had been assisting the police in an operation to apprehend the receiver of stolen goods and recover the vehicles used in the crime.

However, during the operation, the suspects managed to flee. Despite this setback, the police successfully arrested the alleged receiver and recovered two vehicles believed to have been stolen from unsuspecting victims.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Orutugu, on receipt of the report today, Feb. 18, about the escape of the two suspects involved in the murder of late Justice Azuka, Member Representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly… has consequently deployed both human, operational, and intelligence assets of the Command for the re-arrest of the suspects and directed immediate disciplinary action against the officers found wanton in this regard,” Ikenga said.
