JUST IN: UNIZIK Expels Student for Biting Lecturer Over TikTok Video

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for assaulting a lecturer during a dispute over a TikTok video.

The decision was outlined in an official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu. The letter noted that the university’s Student Disciplinary Committee found Precious guilty of violating Regulation 4 (SDR) of the institution’s disciplinary rules.

The incident, which sparked widespread reactions, involved a confrontation between Precious and Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

Reports indicate that the altercation began when the lecturer interrupted a TikTok video Precious was recording on campus. The situation quickly escalated, leading to an attack that included biting.

Following the incident, a video of the clash surfaced online, drawing public attention and prompting calls for disciplinary action. In response, the university investigated the matter and took swift action based on the committee’s findings.

The expulsion letter stated, “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theater and Film Studies, which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).”

It further added, “Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect. You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”
