The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to stop holding meetings at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja. The decision comes after concerns about security at the venue.
BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, made the announcement on Wednesday during the opening of a board meeting in Abuja. He stated that the BoT would now hold its meetings at a different location until the security situation at Wadata Plaza improves.
This move follows a violent clash last week between supporters of two individuals vying for the position of PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye. The clash reportedly disrupted a BoT meeting at the secretariat, raising concerns about safety.
The ongoing dispute over the National Secretary position has led to multiple court judgments, creating tension within the party. BoT members are expected to discuss ways to resolve these legal issues and bring stability to the leadership.
Several key members of the BoT attended the meeting where this decision was made. Among those present were former PDP National Chairman Senator Ahmed Makarfi, BoT Secretary, and former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, as well as Senator Ben Obi and Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
