Kaduna Refinery Rehabilitation Reaches 60% Completion, Says NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced that the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company (KRPC) has reached over 60% mechanical completion.

This update was shared by NNPC’s Executive Vice President (Downstream), Isiyaku Abdullahi, during a workshop and engagement session with Kannywood artistes in Abuja.

Abdullahi noted that the company has been working hard to ensure the refinery becomes operational this year. He also stated that efforts are being made to upgrade the pipelines using in-house expertise.

“Kaduna in sha Allah should come on stream this year. We are working tirelessly on the pipelines. We are working on Kaduna,” Abdullahi declared.

He further noted that all three government-owned refineries—Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and Warri—are under his supervision. According to him, significant progress has already been made in revamping the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, and the plan is to complete work on the Port Harcourt refinery within the year.

“And by God’s grace, this year, we will deliver Port Harcourt Refinery,” he added.

The rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries has been a long-standing issue, with the country relying heavily on imported fuel despite having domestic refining facilities. The NNPC has been making efforts to restore these facilities to full operation, aiming to reduce dependence on imported petroleum products and improve energy security.

Beyond refinery rehabilitation, Abdullahi urged Nigerians to prepare for the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of NNPC, which he said would happen soon. He encouraged citizens to set aside funds to invest in the company, emphasizing that the oil and gas sector presents valuable opportunities for investors.

“For all Nigerians, there is an opportunity. Very soon, we will go IPO. We will go public. Put certain amount of money aside so that you can come and get from oil and gas.”
