The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Agency has sealed a warehouse in Nasarawa Local Government Area after discovering rice worth over N1 billion, allegedly diverted from government palliative supplies meant for public distribution.
The agency’s Executive Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, led the operation at the warehouse, situated along Ring Road. He explained that the rice, originally packaged with President Bola Tinubu’s image and labeled “Ramadan Kareem,” was intended for distribution during the last Ramadan period.
Instead, the supplies were found being re-bagged under different brands, allegedly to be sold in local markets.
“This is a clear form of corruption,” Rimin-Gado stated. “Considering the hardship people are facing today, it is appalling that someone would have the audacity to re-bag and sell them.”
During the operation, officials seized a re-bagging machine believed to have been used in the scheme. One suspect was taken into custody, and investigations are underway to identify all those involved.
“We are here with a court order and the necessary warrants,” Rimin-Gado noted. “This is part of our effort to recover stolen resources meant for the public.”
He assured citizens that the agency is determined to hold the culprits accountable and prevent similar incidents in the future. “Our commitment is to uncover everyone behind this act,” he added.
