Kano Governor Distributes 7,158 Goats to Empower 2,382 Women

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched the second phase of a major livestock empowerment program, distributing 7,158 goats to 2,382 women across the state.

This initiative, carried out under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project, aims to improve the economic well-being of vulnerable women by promoting livestock entrepreneurship.

Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, shared details of the program in a statement to journalists on Tuesday.

The event, held during the inauguration of the Livestock Fattening Programme, focused on equipping women from all 44 local government areas with resources to build sustainable livelihoods.

At the ceremony, Governor Yusuf explained that each beneficiary would receive three goats as part of the initiative.

He noted that this phase is just the beginning of broader efforts to support women and youths in Kano State. The next phases of the program will include the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to further empower these groups.

“This initiative is not just about distributing livestock but about fostering a sustainable economic model that uplifts communities and reduces dependency on government aid,” Yusuf stated during his address.
