Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the appointment of three second-class Emirs for the newly established emirates of Gaya, Karaye, and Rano. This decision, effective immediately, aims to enhance traditional leadership within the state.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, released a statement detailing the appointments. According to Tofa, the new emirates will function as second-class emirates, while Kano remains the first-class emirate.
The newly appointed Emir of Karaye is Alhaji Muhammad Karaye, who previously served as the District Head of Rogo. Alhaji Muhammad Umar, formerly the District Head of Bunkure, has been named the Emir of Rano. Additionally, Alhaji Aliyu Abdulkadir Gaya, the former Emir of the now-defunct Gaya emirate, has been reinstated as the Emir of Gaya.
Governor Yusuf expressed his congratulations to the new Emirs and urged them to uphold the cultural heritage, peace, and unity of their communities. “While congratulating the newly appointed Emirs, Governor Abba Yusuf enjoined them to be custodians of culture, peace, and unity of the people in their respective emirates,” the statement read.
On Tuesday, Governor Yusuf signed into law the creation of the three second-class emirates. The Emirate of Rano will encompass the Local Government Areas of Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure. The Gaya Emirate will cover Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government Areas, while the Karaye Emirate will include Karaye and Rogo Local Government Areas.
