Kebbi State has been described as the most peaceful state in the Northwest region of Nigeria. Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, made this statement while highlighting the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity and support residents in resuming normal activities.
Speaking on the administration’s achievements, Idris said that the government has been unwavering in its commitment to combating banditry and other security challenges. He noted that significant resources have been allocated to assist security agencies in their work, which has contributed to the state’s improved security climate.
“Our governor is doing a lot in that aspect and has been encouraging residents of the state to continue to cooperate with security agents in the provision of timely information for them,” Idris said.
The Chief Press Secretary further highlighted recent developments, pointing out how previously affected communities are beginning to rebuild their lives. “I was in Shanga of recent. Some of the people of the community were telling me that they have returned to farm after almost 10 years of absence due to security issues,” he added.
Idris also noted that people can now travel between towns like Kebbi and Zuru without fear, marking a sharp contrast to the insecurity that plagued the region in the past. “If you go to Zuru now, people can travel from here in Kebbi to Zuru without any issue, so we are working to improve on the security issue,” he said confidently.
In his assessment, he declared, “I can boldly say it anywhere that Kebbi is the most peaceful state in the entire Northwest part of the country.”
Meanwhile, in neighboring Sokoto State, retired Colonel Ahmed Usman, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, reaffirmed ongoing efforts to combat cross-border threats. He reported that there have been no confirmed foreign incursions into Sokoto State and assured that security measures are being enhanced.
“Our security agents are dealing with [the bandits] massively, and it will continue like that until we get rid of them as usual,” Usman stated, stressing the importance of collaboration between state and local security forces.
