A man identified as Godwin Anuka was killed by suspected kidnappers in the presence of his wife and two children after being abducted on his farm in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State. The tragic incident was revealed by Harrison Gwamnishu, the Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilisation to the Delta State Governor, through a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Gwamnishu noted that the kidnappers had initially taken two individuals on March 23 and were holding them in a forest while demanding ransom. However, while hiding in the bush with their captives, they came across Anuka, his wife, and their two young children working on their farm. The armed men then kidnapped the entire family and demanded payment for their release.
According to Gwamnishu, “Mr Godwin Anuka, his wife, and two underage children were kidnapped on March 29, 2025, at their farm in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State. It’s the same five sets of Fulani armed kidnappers that carried out these heinous crimes.”
He further explained that the gang had already kidnapped two others before capturing Anuka and his family. “They kidnapped Chibueze from Ogwashi-Uku, trekked to Ubulu-Uku, and kidnapped Mr Afam. They trekked, crossed the Isah Ogwashi/Ubulu-Uku road to Power Line, and headed to a farm road towards Ani-Uje Ubulu-Uku, where they camped for days and started calling for ransom.”
Efforts to rescue the victims were made by local authorities. Gwamnishu stated that the chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, along with the Ubulu-Uku Central Vigilante team and the Nigerian Army, mobilized to secure the release of the captives.
However, despite a ransom being paid, only some of the victims were freed. Anuka’s wife and children, along with other abducted individuals, were released, but Anuka was tragically shot and killed in the farm before his family.
Gwamnishu wrote, “Yesterday, after a huge ransom was paid, the kidnappers released Chibueze, Mr Afam, late Godwin’s wife, and two children, and we were told that Mr Godwin was shot and killed right inside the farm in the presence of his wife and children.”
