Two residents of Gwargwada in Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were killed by kidnappers after a delay in ransom payment.
The victims, identified as Mohammed Danladi and Nasiru Yusuf, were among four people abducted last Wednesday at Gwombe junction along the Gwargwada-Rubochi road.
A family member of one of the deceased, Shuaibu Abdullahi, noted that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦500,000 each for the two victims. However, their families were only able to gather ₦500,000 in total.
“The kidnappers’ leader called on Friday, and the family members told them that they were only able to raise ₦500,000 not knowing that they had already killed two of them because the family delayed the ransom,” he said.
While the two men were killed, the abductors later freed a herder and a woman after collecting a ₦3 million ransom at their hideout in Kotonkarfe forest, Kogi State.
Confirming the incident, the traditional ruler of Gwargwada, Ugbada Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, noted that the victims were abducted while returning from Rubochi.
“Unfortunately, the two young men were killed by their abductors simply because of the delay in paying the ransom they demanded,” he said.
