On Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, Bethrand Onuoha, presented cheques amounting to N48.6 million to the families of 22 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The money, drawn from group life insurance policies, was handed over during a ceremony organized to offer support to the families of these officers, as well as to officers who sustained injuries while serving.
This event, held at the Kogi State Police Command headquarters, was part of an ongoing initiative aimed at ensuring the welfare of police officers and their families. The cheques were given out on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the welfare program is not only intended to support the families of the deceased but also serves to motivate officers still in service to remain dedicated to their duties.
“The CP, on behalf of the IGP, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes,” the statement read.
In his remarks, Commissioner Onuoha reiterated the commitment of the Inspector General of Police to continuously improve the welfare conditions for all officers. He mentioned that this includes active officers, those who have retired, and the families of those who have passed away. He also encouraged the injured officers to focus on their recovery and advised the families receiving the funds to use them to improve their quality of life.
