A magistrate’s court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has ordered the detention of a 29-year-old man, Abdulrahman Mohammed Bello, who claims to be an Islamic cleric. He is accused of murdering a final-year student, Lawal Hafsah Yetunde, in a gruesome crime that has shocked the community.
Yetunde, a 24-year-old student at the Kwara State College of Education, was allegedly killed and dismembered by Bello and his accomplices. The details of the crime have caused outrage, with many calling for justice for the young woman.
The suspect was arraigned alongside four others—Ahmed Abulwasiu, Sulaiman Muhydeen, Jamiu Uthman, and AbdulRahman Jamiu—who are all from Ilorin and Malete.
Authorities have also stated that additional suspects are still on the run. The charges against them include criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, armed robbery, and possession of human parts.
During the court session, prosecutors explained that the police had gathered enough evidence linking the suspects to the crime. The judge, after reviewing the case, ordered Bello and his accomplices to be remanded in prison while the investigation continues.
