Real Madrid bounced back from recent setbacks with an impressive 3-0 win over Girona at Montilivi Stadium on Saturday, closing the gap on league leaders Barcelona to just two points.
This victory in was driven by a standout performance from Jude Bellingham, who scored the opening goal and assisted another, alongside Kylian Mbappe, who silenced critics with a clinical finish.
Madrid’s attack clicked after a slow start, with Girona posing early threats through Bryan Gil and Donny van de Beek. However, Real Madrid grew into the game, showcasing their quality.
Bellingham found the net in the 36th minute after capitalizing on a loose ball in Girona’s crowded box. This marked his fifth consecutive La Liga goal, underlining his crucial role in the team.
The second half saw an energized Real Madrid. Arda Güler doubled the lead in the 55th minute, calmly finishing a perfectly threaded pass from Bellingham. Mbappe then sealed the victory with a spectacular counter-attacking goal in the closing stages, firing across the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Despite concerns after Bellingham and Ferland Mendy exited with injuries, coach Carlo Ancelotti reassured fans that Bellingham would be ready for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Atalanta. He also confirmed Mendy’s muscular injury but expressed optimism about the team’s improved form.
Reflecting on the game, Ancelotti said, “Bellingham scored his fifth goal running, Mbappe scored, Brahim did good work, Arda scored a great goal, as I said, bit by bit we will come back.”
Girona, struggling in eighth place, rued missed opportunities and will turn their focus to upcoming crucial matches against Liverpool in the Champions League and Mallorca in La Liga.
