“Lagbaja Did Not Enjoy Life Outside Military” – Family

The head of the Lagbaja family in Ilobu, Osun State, Mr. Demola Lagbaja, has expressed regret over the short-lived retirement of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoheed Lagbaja.

Speaking from the family’s home in Ibadan on Monday, Mr. Lagbaja shared that the family hoped their late son would enjoy a peaceful retirement after his dedicated years of service in the Nigerian military.

During a condolence visit from members of the St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, Old Boys Association, Mr. Lagbaja explained that the family had anticipated a restful post-military life for Lt. Gen. Lagbaja. “Some tears will never dry,” he remarked, highlighting the depth of their loss.

Reflecting on the late general’s life, Mr. Lagbaja noted that his nephew had spent most of his years in active military service, having joined soon after his A-levels at the Polytechnic. “That was our wish, which never came,” he said. “We have to submit to the will of God, but we are very proud of our son, for he made us proud. All we can wish him is to rest in peace.”

The family also expressed appreciation for the visit and support from the alumni association, describing Lt. Gen. Lagbaja as a well-spoken-of figure whose legacy lives on. The delegation from the alumni group, led by the Chairman of the school’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Sola Omopo, honored him, presenting a condolence letter to the family.

Omopo praised the late general’s efforts to support the school, noting that he had been overseeing a significant project for the institution, valued at around N550 million and nearing completion. He described the news of Lagbaja’s passing as deeply shocking for the entire community.

Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja passed away on November 5 at the age of 56, leaving behind a proud legacy of service and dedication.
