Lagos APC Receives Over 100 Petitions Challenging LG Primary

The Appeal Committee of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently reviewing more than 100 petitions filed by disgruntled members who contested the results of the recently concluded local government primaries.

The primaries, held last Saturday, aimed to select candidates for the upcoming July 12 chairmanship and councillorship elections across the 57 local councils in the state.

The petitions, which came from various aspirants across Lagos, are challenging the credibility and transparency of the selection process.

Reports indicate that 45 petitions were submitted by chairmanship aspirants, while 59 came from councillorship hopefuls. Many of the complainants allege that party leaders imposed their preferred candidates, disregarding due process.

The primaries, which were conducted at the APC’s state secretariat on ACME Road through a combination of indirect election and consensus methods, have since been marred by controversy.

In the aftermath of the vote, protests erupted in different parts of Lagos, including Agege, Ikeja, and Somolu. Hundreds of APC members took to the streets to express dissatisfaction, insisting that the outcomes did not reflect the true wishes of the grassroots.

To address these growing tensions, the APC leadership in Lagos established an appeal panel headed by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN).

The committee set a submission deadline of 12 p.m. on Tuesday for all petitions. According to the party’s spokesperson, Oluseye Oladejo, the appeal process is moving forward and is expected to be concluded within the week.

Oladejo noted, “The committee will conclude its assignment this week,” affirming the party’s commitment to internal justice and reconciliation.
