Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched a major redevelopment project to construct 2,200 modern housing units for police officers at the Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende.
The initiative, which was inaugurated on Thursday, also saw the governor hand over 260 new patrol vehicles and critical equipment to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
During the event, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing housing challenges while enhancing the welfare of law enforcement personnel.
“Today is a day for our law enforcement officers because two of the activities that we are engaging in today are for their welfare and our collective security and safety of lives and property,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu described the barracks redevelopment as a transformative project aimed at replacing dilapidated structures with modern, secure accommodations.
“For decades, this barracks stood as a symbol of resilience, sheltering countless officers who have dedicated their lives to protecting our state. However, the wear and tear of time, coupled with insufficient maintenance, led to severe structural dilapidation,” he noted.
Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, also spoke at the event, calling it a milestone in the modernization of the police force. He praised the Lagos State government for its unwavering support.
