The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has continued its clean-up and enforcement efforts across the state with a major operation in Agege, resulting in the arrest of 84 people.
The Friday operation, which took place on June 20, 2025, was made known through a post by Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor.
He shared details of the exercise on his official social media page, noting that it was part of the state’s broader campaign to restore order in areas known for environmental abuse and public disturbances.
The clean-up effort focused on well-known trouble spots within the Agege community, including the Railway corridor at Ojurin, Isale Oja, Oke Koto, AP Junction, and neighboring streets. These areas have long been reported for illegal activities, poor sanitation, and gatherings of suspected criminals.
In a statement issued following the enforcement operation, officials noted: “Lagos State Environmental Taskforce on Friday, June. 20 2025, embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation in the Agege area.
“The areas visited during the operation included Railway corridor (Ojurin), Isale Oja, Oke Koto, AP junction in Agege area, and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.
“During the raid exercise, a total of 84 suspects were arrested, comprising 82 males and 2 females.
“All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
The state government has been working steadily to sanitize key parts of Lagos, especially places that have become known for criminal hideouts and uncontrolled street trading. Residents living around these hotspots have often raised concerns about safety and sanitation, prompting stricter enforcement by the authorities.
The taskforce, working with other state security agencies, has been visiting several parts of Lagos in recent weeks to enforce public order laws. Officials noted that these operations would continue as long as necessary to restore peace and order in affected areas.
