Lakurawa Terrorist Maigemu Killed in Kebbi Security Operation

A notorious Lakurawa terrorist leader, Maigemu, has been killed in Kebbi State by a joint team of security operatives and local vigilantes.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama shared the news on Friday through a post on his X handle. Citing intelligence sources, he noted that Maigemu was neutralized on Thursday at Kuncin Baba in the Arewa Local Government Area after an intense gunfight.

The operation took place just days after Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities in the same local government area. The governor had traveled there to sympathize with residents following the killing of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers.

During his visit, Governor Idris assured the affected communities that security measures would be reinforced immediately. He also promised strategic actions to curb criminal activities in the region.

Makama, referring to intelligence sources, stated, “Today, his proactive approach has yielded results with the elimination of this kingpin. His corpse is available as evidence.”

Maigemu was known for his involvement in violent attacks and cattle rustling, which had caused fear and instability in the area. His death is seen as a major success in the fight against terrorism and banditry in Kebbi State.

The Lakurawa group has been responsible for several criminal acts in northern Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi and neighboring states. Security forces have been working to dismantle their networks and restore peace to affected areas.
