Lakurawa Terrorists Kill 13 Vigilantes in Kebbi

13 members of a local vigilante have been killed during a deadly attack in Morai, a village in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The incident occurred on Sunday when armed men, believed to be from the Lakurawa terrorist group, stormed the rural settlement and began rustling cattle.

Residents of the village said the attack came without warning. It was during the chaos of the assault that members of the vigilante group tried to organize a defense to protect their people and livestock. But their attempt to confront the attackers ended in tragedy.

Malam Ibrahim Augie, a resident of the area, shared some of the terrifying details. He noted that many of the vigilantes came together quickly after hearing that the terrorists had entered the community and were stealing cattle. They hoped to fight them off and recover the stolen animals. Unfortunately, the situation had already taken a turn for the worse.

“The vigilantes hid to attack and recapture the rustled cattle, but they didn’t know the Lakurawa had already seen them and they were shot and killed,” he said.

According to local sources, the attackers had already surrounded the area by the time the vigilantes moved in. The terrorists, who were reportedly heavily armed, had the advantage of both numbers and position. As soon as the vigilantes made their move, they were ambushed and killed.

The aftermath of the attack has left the Morai community in deep fear and mourning. Many residents now feel unsafe, and some are considering leaving the village for their own protection.
