Abuja witnessed an emotional farewell as the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, was laid to rest at the National Cemetery. The burial marked the conclusion of two days of solemn funeral rites honoring the highly respected military officer’s decades-long service to Nigeria.
The burial, held on Thursday, was attended by family, colleagues, and top government officials. The late general’s casket, draped in the green and white colors of Nigeria, arrived at the cemetery in a white funeral wagon shortly after a funeral service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja. The final interment occurred at 4:41 pm, following a two-hour-long ceremony filled with prayers and tributes.
Earlier, a service of songs was held on Wednesday at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground in Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja. The event brought together military personnel and loved ones to celebrate Lagbaja’s life and contributions to the nation.
On Thursday morning, a Nigerian Air Force aircraft transported the late general’s remains from Lagos to the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, arriving at approximately 12:15 pm.
