Late Singer Mohbad’s Father Speaks Out on Family Strains, DNA Controversy, and Legal Delays

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has voiced his frustrations regarding his relationship with Mohbad’s wife and child, as well as the legal proceedings surrounding the singer’s untimely death.

Speaking during a Silverbird TV interview on Friday, Aloba revealed the challenges he has faced since his son’s passing, including estrangement from his grandson and the delays in the investigation into Mohbad’s death.

Aloba stated that he has not been in contact with Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, or their son, Liam, since the tragedy. He expressed disappointment that neither Wunmi nor her family has reached out to him, emphasizing that they know where he lives and should have made an effort to bring the child to meet him.

“I’ve not seen Mohbad’s wife and son since his death,” he said. “They are supposed to bring that child to me and say, ‘This is your grandson.’”

The grieving father also highlighted his demand for a DNA test to confirm Liam’s paternity, accusing Mohbad’s wife of avoiding the issue. “I demanded DNA; they are supposed to say, ‘Daddy, do it at your convenient time,’ but they have been hiding it. So, it became a public matter,” Aloba said. He added that he would accept the child if the DNA test confirms him as Mohbad’s son.

Aloba further shared concerns about his second son, Adura, who was living with Mohbad before his death. According to Aloba, Adura has also distanced himself, leaving the father unaware of key details about Mohbad’s final days.

“Adura is now 22 years old, but he never called me or came to my house since his brother’s death,” Aloba lamented. “He is supposed to know what happened.”

Regarding the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death, Aloba criticized the delays in the coroner’s inquest and urged the Lagos State government to expedite the process. He disclosed that while a private autopsy had been conducted, its results have not been revealed due to legal restrictions.

“The coroner inquest was delayed, so I want to appeal to the Lagos state government to reopen it,” Aloba said. “We have done the private autopsy, but I cannot present the result now until the coroner is opened.”
