LG Polls: Council Chairman Offers Free Transport for Voter Card Collection

The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area in Lagos State, Wasiu Adesina, has introduced a free transportation service to help residents collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the upcoming local council elections.

Speaking during an empowerment event held at the council secretariat on Tuesday, Adesina revealed the transport plan as a way to improve voter turnout in the elections set for July 12, 2025. According to him, many residents who registered for their PVCs have yet to collect them, and the free transportation initiative will make it easier for those individuals to do so.

“Local government elections are critical because they determine who attends to the immediate needs of the grassroots. It is important for our people to fully participate,” he said.

The chairman explained that the PVCs are available at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office and encouraged all eligible voters to take advantage of the free ride to retrieve their cards.

Aside from the voter mobilization effort, the council also hosted an empowerment initiative at the same event. Twenty women from different wards across Ikorodu received financial support of N50,000 each to help them start or expand their businesses.

Adesina noted that true governance means making life better for the people, especially at the grassroots. “By providing access to initiatives such as this, we are not merely giving our people fish; we are teaching them how to fish,” he said.

He also assured the public that all ongoing infrastructure and community development projects would be completed and inaugurated before the end of his term in office. He thanked his management team and staff for their continuous cooperation and support.

Also present at the event was the All Progressives Congress (APC) Woman Leader in the Ikorodu Division, Alhaja Rashidat Bello, who praised Adesina for consistently supporting women and promoting their empowerment.

“This gift is an important seed to start a business and help alleviate the suffering of the beneficiaries,” she stated.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Shokunbi Karimot, expressed her thanks to both the APC and the council chairman. She prayed for Adesina’s continued progress in his political career and noted the support would make a real difference in her life.
