The Chief Executive Officer of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter and owned by Elon Musk, has officially stepped down from her role after two years of service.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Linda Yaccarino announced her resignation, though she did not give a specific reason for leaving. She simply said that the platform was moving into “a new chapter,” especially after being taken over by Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏,” Yaccarino wrote.
“When #elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.
“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”
In her farewell message, Yaccarino acknowledged the X team’s work, especially in helping to build back trust with advertisers and focusing on user safety. She also noted that the platform had made major improvements since her appointment.
“I’m incredibly proud of the X team, the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable.
“We started with the critical early work necessary to prioritise the safety of our users, especially children, and to restore advertiser confidence.
“This team has worked relentlessly from groundbreaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform.
“Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with #xai,” she added.
Describing the platform as a “digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal,” Yaccarino gave credit to users, business partners, and the team for their roles in the company’s growth and transformation.
Elon Musk appointed Yaccarino in May 2023, just after his $44 billion purchase of Twitter. She officially assumed the CEO role in June 2023, taking over from Musk who had held the position briefly on an interim basis.
Before joining X, Yaccarino was an advertising executive at NBCUniversal, where she was known for her leadership in media and digital advertising.
