Liverpool Crush Tottenham 4-0 to Reach Carabao Cup Final

Liverpool secured their place in the Carabao Cup final in emphatic fashion, defeating Tottenham 4-0 at Anfield. The Reds overturned a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, leaving Spurs with no response as they booked a Wembley showdown with Newcastle.

Liverpool controlled the match from the beginning, showing urgency and determination. Their breakthrough came in the 34th minute after a mistake in midfield by Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma. Mohamed Salah took advantage, delivering a well-placed cross to Darwin Nunez. Though Nunez missed his chance, Cody Gakpo was quick to react, drilling the ball into the net to bring the tie level on aggregate.

Tottenham, hoping to end a 17-year trophy drought, struggled to create opportunities. Their lack of attacking threat made it difficult to challenge a dominant Liverpool side, who have won this competition ten times.

Just five minutes into the second half, Liverpool extended their lead. Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky fouled Nunez inside the box, leading to a penalty. Salah stepped up and fired in the spot-kick, putting Liverpool in control. As the home crowd sensed victory, chants of “Wembley” echoed around the stadium.

Tottenham showed little fight, and Liverpool capitalized further. In the 72nd minute, Dominik Szoboszlai finished off a well-placed cross from Conor Bradley, making it 3-0. Soon after, Virgil van Dijk sealed the win with a powerful header from a corner, ensuring Liverpool’s place in the final on March 16.

Under new head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool remain in contention for multiple trophies this season. They currently lead the Premier League by six points, are progressing in the FA Cup, and have reached the Champions League last 16. While the Carabao Cup may be seen as the least significant of these, winning it could mark the start of a memorable season for the Reds.

Liverpool will now prepare for their final clash against Newcastle, aiming to defend their title and secure back-to-back EFL Cup victories.
