As the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State approaches, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Makinde, who leads the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, expressed confidence that the APC will face an unexpected defeat in the upcoming election.
Makinde’s statement follows Ganduje’s bold claim that the APC is on track to dominate the Southwest region, having set its sights on securing victory in Ondo State. Ganduje recently addressed party members and aspirants, rallying them to fully support the APC’s candidate.
“We assure you that Tinubu is the best we have, and we must deliver 100 percent in favour of APC in this election and in the South West region. We assure you we are strategising to take over the two other states in this region,” Ganduje said.
However, Makinde remains unfazed by the APC’s ambitious plans. Speaking at a campaign rally in Akoko, Ondo State, Makinde emphasized that the PDP is still a strong force in the state and has the backing of the people. He confidently predicted that voters will choose the PDP over the APC in the upcoming election.
“The people of the South West of Nigeria are wiser, especially in Ondo State,” Makinde said during the rally. He pointed to the large crowd and the enthusiastic atmosphere as proof of the PDP’s popularity in the region. “You can see the crowd; look at the enthusiasm. On November 16th, they will tell him (Ganduje) that Ondo State and indeed Southwest are for the PDP.”
