A 23-year-old man, Solomon Fabiyi, has been arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly attempting to use his seven-year-old nephew, Jomiloju, for a money ritual.
The police spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, said Fabiyi was caught before he could carry out the act. He was arrested in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, February 14, 2025, following a tip-off. The suspect, who lived with his parents and the victim, had reportedly planned the ritual with the help of a local herbalist.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Abutu said that Fabiyi had confessed to the crime and had already been taken to court.
“He was arrested by our operatives on Friday, 14th February 2025 at about 19:00hrs through a tip-off while he was on the verge of using his nephew for a money ritual,” Abutu said.
A video circulating on social media showed Fabiyi admitting that a herbalist had instructed him to find a person for the ritual. The herbalist allegedly told him that the child would not die but would develop a serious illness as a result of the ritual.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, the same herbalist who had initially guided Fabiyi on the ritual ended up alerting the police. When Fabiyi brought the boy for the ritual, the herbalist chose to inform the authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
