A yet-to-be-identified man reportedly fell from one of the upper floors of the Cocoa House building in Ibadan, Oyo State, causing shock and confusion among workers and visitors around the busy commercial site.
The incident happened early on Monday morning, 2nd June 2025, and drew the attention of many in the area. Eyewitnesses described the moment as both sudden and horrifying, as no one expected such an event in the usually peaceful business environment.
“When the incident happened, I initially thought it was a large bird falling from the sky. It was only when the person landed that I realised it was a human being. I had my phone with me but I couldn’t even record anything because I was completely shocked,” said one witness at the scene.
Another witness added, “The victim first hit a roof beside the security post of the building before landing on the ground. It was a terrifying sight.”
The Cocoa House is known as one of the tallest buildings in West Africa, standing at 26 floors, and houses offices, shops, and corporate businesses. The fall caused a moment of panic as people rushed out of the building, trying to understand what had just happened.
At the time of this report, the identity of the man is still unknown, and no one has confirmed whether he was a staff member, visitor, or someone unaffiliated with any of the businesses operating within the building.
A statement released by Odu’a Investment Company Limited, the firm in charge of the property, confirmed the tragic incident.
According to the company’s Head of Branding and Communication, Victor Ayetoro, “The individual involved was swiftly attended to by the emergency response team and taken to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for urgent medical attention.”
He also noted that the company is working with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the fall. “The company expressed deep concerns over the development and assured the public of its full cooperation with authorities investigating the cause of the fall,” the statement added.
Security officials were also seen around the building hours after the event, questioning those who may have witnessed the fall and reviewing CCTV footage for more details.
