Manchester City have completed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush for an initial fee of approximately £59 million ($72.6 million). The 25-year-old Egyptian has committed to a four-and-a-half-year contract with the reigning Premier League champions. Reports suggest the deal could include an additional £4.2 million in performance-based bonuses.
Marmoush is the club’s third acquisition during the ongoing January transfer window, following the arrivals of defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
Speaking about the milestone in his career, Marmoush expressed his joy, stating, “This is a day I will never forget. To sign for Manchester City — one of the best teams in the world — is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.”
Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Marmoush’s abilities, describing him as a talented and versatile forward. “He’s had an outstanding season, and every time we have watched him, he has influenced matches,” Begiristain noted.
“He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset.”
Marmoush’s arrival comes at a challenging time for Manchester City, as the club struggles to regain its dominant form. Despite winning the Premier League title in the past four seasons, City currently sit fifth in the league standings, trailing 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.
To make matters worse, Pep Guardiola’s squad recently suffered a 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage, putting their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds in jeopardy.
