Manchester United to Play Friendly Matches in Hong Kong and Malaysia After 12 Years

Manchester United is set to play friendly matches in Hong Kong and Malaysia after an extended break of 12 years. The Premier League club will travel to both countries in late May, just a few days after the conclusion of their 2024-2025 season.

On May 28, the team will face an ASEAN All-Star XI in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The second match will take place in Hong Kong on May 30, where United will play against local representatives. The matches are part of United’s post-season tour, aimed at strengthening its international presence.

Manchester United’s final Premier League match for the 2024-2025 season will be held on May 25 at Old Trafford, where they will meet Aston Villa. Despite a challenging season, the club will look forward to the upcoming friendly games as a way to engage with their global fanbase and boost their brand’s visibility.

The club’s last visit to Asia was in July 2022 when they played Liverpool in Thailand. United’s participation in these friendly matches continues their tradition of taking part in high-profile tours across Asia. The team has also planned to participate in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States ahead of the 2025-2026 season.

Manchester United’s Chief Executive, Omar Berrada, noted, “Importantly, tour fixtures drive significant additional revenue which help make the club stronger, allowing us to keep investing in success on the pitch.” These revenue-generating tours are an essential part of United’s broader strategy to improve both on and off the field.

The Hong Kong team, which United will face, is managed by Ashley Westwood, a former United youth player. Despite being ranked 153rd in the world, Westwood’s side will be hoping to put up a strong challenge against the English giants.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool have already announced their plans to visit Hong Kong in July, further cementing the city’s status as a prime destination for high-profile football matches.

This tour marks a significant return for Manchester United to Hong Kong, a city they last visited back in 2013.
