Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Getafe on Sunday, with Kylian Mbappe scoring one of the goals to help his team climb to second place in La Liga. Despite recent criticism of his performances, Mbappe found the back of the net in what was a crucial win for the Spanish giants.
The match began with Getafe attempting to slow down the pace of the game. However, the home side took control when Getafe’s Allan Nyom fouled Antonio Rudiger inside the penalty box. Jude Bellingham stepped up to take the spot-kick and confidently converted it, giving Madrid a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. This goal marked Bellingham’s third in as many games, continuing his excellent form this season.
Just before halftime, Mbappe doubled the lead with a brilliant strike. Bellingham, who was playing a pivotal role, passed the ball to Mbappe on the left. The French forward drove inside the box and curled a low shot past Getafe’s goalkeeper David Soria, scoring his eighth goal of the season.
In the second half, Madrid had several opportunities to extend their lead further. Mbappe created a brilliant pass to Brahim Diaz, who narrowly missed the target, and he himself came close to scoring a second goal after rounding Soria but fired wide. The Getafe goalkeeper also made key saves to deny Fede Valverde and Mbappe once again.
Although Mbappe missed several chances, including a late opportunity in stoppage time, Getafe could not capitalize on Madrid’s profligacy. The visitors had a powerful shot from John Patrick that struck both the crossbar and post, but they were unable to break through.
The win brought Madrid within one point of league leaders Barcelona, who were defeated by Las Palmas on Saturday. With three consecutive wins in La Liga, Madrid will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next match against Athletic Bilbao.
