Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about how meeting American singer Chris Brown in 2018 had a profound impact on his music career, helping him take significant strides forward in the global music scene.
During a recent appearance on the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, Davido recounted the moment he crossed paths with Chris Brown, which he describes as a turning point in his professional journey. The Nigerian artist revealed that he first made contact with the US superstar through one of Chris Brown’s close friends, who happens to be Nigerian.
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life. I met him in 2018. He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends,” Davido shared. He went on to explain that this Nigerian friend, who had played a key role in connecting the two musicians, FaceTimed him one day with surprising news.
“My song was playing in the background,” Davido recalled. “I asked where he was, and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house. I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And he showed me Chris dancing to my song.”
It was in that moment, with the iconic scene of Chris Brown dancing to his music, that Davido’s connection to the American star began. The friend passed the phone to Chris, marking the first time the two artists spoke directly. This simple but powerful interaction sparked a friendship that would grow over the next few months.
“Chris gave me a call, and from that moment on, we just clicked,” Davido said. “A few months later, I went to America and linked up with Chris. From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends.”
The collaboration between the two artists wasn’t just based on mutual respect for each other’s music but also a strong personal connection that developed over time.
For Davido, this friendship helped open doors in the international music scene, offering him new opportunities and exposure in the global entertainment industry.
