Mike Tyson Set for Comeback Fight Against YouTuber Jake Paul

After nearly two decades away from professional boxing, legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson, now 58, is preparing for an unusual return to the ring against YouTube star and rising boxer Jake Paul. The fight, backed by Netflix, will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on November 13, 2024.

Though Tyson dominated the boxing world in the late 1980s, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion at just 20, his decision to re-enter the ring against the 27-year-old Paul has stirred strong reactions in the boxing world.

Tyson’s return marks his first professional bout since 2005, when he lost via technical knockout to Kevin McBride. Since then, many in the boxing community have questioned whether it’s safe for Tyson to compete, especially given his age and prior health issues.

The fight was originally set for July but was postponed after Tyson experienced a bleeding ulcer on a flight, a health scare that has fueled further criticism of his decision to fight.

Prominent voices in the sport, including British promoter Eddie Hearn, have expressed serious concerns. “Twenty years ago, Mike Tyson retired from boxing, and was shot to pieces,” said Hearn.

“If anyone thinks that Mike Tyson should be in a ring at this age, you either have absolutely no emotional feelings toward the man, or you’re an idiot. It shouldn’t be happening.”

Paul, who gained fame on YouTube and has since shifted to boxing, has fought 11 matches, winning 10, including seven by knockout. At an open workout in Texas this week, Paul confidently stated, “It’s going to be a short night for Mike.”

Tyson, however, remains defiant, dismissing concerns and calling his critics jealous. “I’m beautiful, that’s all I can say,” he remarked.
