Nigerian troops have made significant achievements across various regions of the country within the past week. The military successfully neutralized 115 terrorists, arrested 289 individuals suspected of criminal activities, and rescued 138 kidnap victims.
Additionally, they disrupted illegal oil operations valued at approximately ₦921.84 million. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, shared these updates during a Thursday press briefing. He emphasized the military’s determination to combat terrorism and criminal activities nationwide.
In the South-East, troops eliminated six terrorists, arrested 13 suspects, and freed one hostage. Among the seized items were five AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, and improvised hand grenades.
The North-East saw intensified operations, especially in Borno and Yobe states. Here, 61 terrorists were neutralized, 34 suspects were arrested, and 32 kidnapped individuals were rescued. The military recovered weapons including 17 AK-47 rifles, PKT guns, and a large cache of ammunition.
In the North-West, 28 terrorists were killed, 77 arrested, and 57 hostages were freed. The operations also yielded 16 AK-47 rifles, explosives, and cash amounting to over ₦7.2 million.
Meanwhile, in North-Central Nigeria, operations in Plateau and Kaduna states led to the rescue of 40 hostages and the arrest of 27 individuals. Troops confiscated motorcycles, mobile phones, arms, and ammunition during these offensives.
In the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe targeted economic sabotage by destroying 56 illegal oil refining sites and 78 crude oil cooking ovens. The military recovered 872,070 liters of stolen crude oil and 67,985 liters of illegally refined diesel. They also arrested 40 suspects and seized boats, speedboats, and storage tanks used in the illicit trade.
The military also conducted air strikes on terrorist hideouts in Katsina and Zamfara states, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.
General Buba praised the dedication and sacrifice of the troops, stating: “The military remains mission-focused and committed to defeating threats across the country. We strive to minimize casualties while upholding our duty to protect lives and property.”
