Minister of Defence Orders Immediate Investigation into Detained Navy Officer’s Case

Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, has called for an urgent investigation into the case of Seaman Abbas Haruna, a Nigerian Navy officer who has been detained under controversial circumstances.

The minister’s action comes after Seaman Haruna’s wife, Mrs. Hussaina Haruna, spoke out in an interview, calling for justice and fairness in her husband’s case.

In a formal statement issued by Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Matawalle’s Personal Assistant on Media, the minister reassured the public of his commitment to fairness and justice.

He stated clearly that the foundation of Nigeria’s military is built on the principles of “honour, discipline, and justice.” Matawalle expressed that no officer in the service of the nation should have to endure wrongful treatment or unnecessary hardship.

Matawalle assured the public that the case of Seaman Abbas Haruna would be thoroughly examined, and every step would be taken to uncover the truth.

He also made it clear that all relevant authorities, including the Nigerian Navy, will actively participate in the investigation to ensure that justice is achieved for all parties involved.

“Our armed forces are built on honour, discipline, and justice. No officer serving this nation should face undue hardship or wrongful treatment,” Matawalle emphasized.

The Defence Minister also pointed out that all military personnel, regardless of their rank, deserve to be treated with fairness and respect. He assured that Haruna’s rights as a serving officer will be safeguarded throughout the investigation process.

Should there be any violation of established military protocols, Matawalle guaranteed that such issues would be handled swiftly and appropriately.

The Ministry of Defence also made it clear that they are dedicated to ensuring that the rule of law is upheld. The minister promised that neither military personnel nor civilians should ever face any form of unfair treatment or harassment under the Nigerian military’s watch.
