Liverpool are progressing well in their negotiations for a new contract with Mohamed Salah, and there is growing confidence that the forward will stay at Anfield for the next season, reports confirmed on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Egyptian international’s current deal is set to expire at the end of this season, along with two of his Liverpool teammates, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, while Alexander-Arnold has been speculated to be a target for a potential free transfer to Real Madrid, van Dijk gave an update after Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Fulham, indicating that discussions regarding a new contract for Salah, as well as himself, were progressing.
Although an official agreement has not been reached yet, sources have expressed optimism that both Salah and van Dijk will extend their contracts with the club.
Salah has been in sensational form this season, topping the Premier League’s scoring charts with 27 goals. Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian has made 394 appearances, scoring an impressive 243 goals. In addition to his personal achievements, Salah has helped guide Liverpool to great success, including winning the Champions League and breaking the club’s 30-year wait for an English title in 2020. Over his time at Liverpool, he has lifted eight major trophies.
Despite growing speculation linking him to a move to Saudi Arabia with a huge financial offer, Salah has consistently expressed that his priority is to remain at Liverpool.
Back in November, Salah gave an interview in which he said he was “probably more out than in” at Liverpool. A month later, he noted that a deal was “far away” from being agreed. However, the latest reports suggest that the situation has now shifted, with discussions becoming more positive and both sides keen to come to an agreement soon.
