More Labour Party Members Join PDP in Enugu

The Labour Party members representing Igboeze/Udenu and Igboeze South/Nsukka Federal Constituencies, Mr. Dennis Agbo and Mark-Chidi Obetta, respectively, on Thursday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu.

Also joining them was Nsukka West State Constituency representative, Mr. Malachi-Okey Onyechi. Their defection marks another wave of political realignments in the state, following similar moves by other Labour Party (LP) leaders in recent weeks.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, just two days earlier, two key LP figures, Prince Emeka Mamah and Titus Odo, had also switched allegiance to the PDP. Their move came shortly after Chijioke Edeoga, the LP’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, returned to the PDP.

The defectors were originally PDP members before leaving the party ahead of the 2023 general elections. Their decision to rejoin suggests a shift in political strategy and alignment within Enugu State.

During the defection event at the PDP Secretariat in Enugu, Onyechi expressed his joy at returning to the party. He pledged his commitment to working together with other PDP members to strengthen the party and promote development in the state.

He also noted Governor Peter Mbah’s ongoing development projects, particularly highlighting the N2 billion initiative spread across Enugu’s 260 political wards. He described the governor’s efforts as a key factor in his decision to return.

Obetta, on his part, stated that his return to the PDP was influenced by the administration’s focus on key sectors such as transportation, education, healthcare, and hospitality. He praised the progress made under the PDP-led government and expressed confidence in its future plans for the state.
