MultiChoice Introduces New Sports Channel, Rebrands SuperSport on DStv and GOtv

Leading pay-TV provider, MultiChoice Group, has announced a major overhaul of its sports channels on DStv and GOtv. As part of this development, the company has introduced a brand-new sports channel while renaming several of its existing SuperSport channels. These changes are aimed at enhancing the viewing experience for subscribers across Africa.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Tope Oshunkeye, the Executive Head of Marketing at MultiChoice West Africa, confirmed that the updates took effect from Wednesday, October 9, 2024. According to Oshunkeye, the channel revamp is part of MultiChoice’s ongoing efforts to provide a richer selection of sports content tailored to African viewers.

One of the key updates is the rebranding of the SuperSport Select Channel, which has now been renamed SuperSport Africa. This new name reflects its broader focus on showcasing a diverse range of sporting events from across the continent.

In addition, a completely new channel called SuperSport Action has been launched. This channel promises to bring a wider array of sports, including popular international events such as UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and additional coverage of the UEFA Champions League. This expansion in content is aimed at satisfying the varied interests of sports fans.

The changes also affect GOtv subscribers, particularly those using the Jinja, Jolli, Max, Supa, and SupaPlus packages. For GOtv Jinja and Jolli customers, SuperSport Africa will now replace the former Select 2 channel (Channel 64). On the GOtv Max package, SuperSport Africa and SuperSport Africa 2 will take over from Select 1 and Select 2 (Channels 63 and 64). Additionally, for those on the Supa and SupaPlus bouquets, SuperSport Action will replace Select 3 (Channel 69).

Explaining the motivation behind these changes, Oshunkeye stated, “The channel revamp is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our sports offering and provide customers with more unbeatable sports content that resonates with them.”

He further highlighted that the newly introduced channels will bring top-tier sports action from all over the world to African audiences. This will include local boxing matches, UFC events, detailed sports analysis, and a variety of engaging content designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of sports fans.

Reaffirming MultiChoice’s commitment to offering the best viewing experience, Oshunkeye added, “We remain dedicated to delivering the best sporting action to our customers and continuously exploring ways to delight them with more choices, exciting live content, and great value.”
