MultiChoice Nigeria Slashes DStv Decoder Price by 50% to Win Back Customers

MultiChoice Nigeria has slashed the price of its DStv decoder by 50 per cent, dropping it from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000

The company shared this update in a recent statement, noting that the price cut is aimed at bringing in more customers and making their services easier to access. This move comes as the pay-TV operator tries to recover from a loss of 1.4 million subscribers over a two-year period, from March 2023 to March 2025.

In the official statement released on Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, noted that the offer is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reward loyal customers while attracting new ones.

He said, “We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”

Ugbe also noted that DStv is now focusing on delivering more value daily by promoting its wide range of content. He said the platform wants people to explore more than just sports — including family shows, news, kids’ programs, and movies. “This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” the company added.

In addition to the decoder price drop, MultiChoice is offering a promotional upgrade to encourage customer retention. Between June 16 and July 31, 2025, active DStv users who pay for their current package in full will automatically be upgraded to the next package tier at no extra cost.

This dual offer — decoder discount and package upgrade — is MultiChoice’s latest strategy to address the ongoing economic challenges affecting many Nigerians. The company notes that it is listening to its customers and adjusting its services to reflect the current realities.

MultiChoice has faced customer backlash over repeated price increases. Within 12 months, the firm raised the costs of both DStv and GOtv plans three times — in April 2023, November 2023, and again in May 2024.
